Hi Kate,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I too had to put my cat Molly to sleep last year for kidney disease. It was a very very difficult time. She got sick over Christmas now 2 yrs ago. After spending several hundred dollars at the vet for the inital assesment, I took her home and had to give injections daily to keep her fluids up. I did this until she started to wither away. She stopped eating and lost so much weight. I had to make the decision to put her to sleep. One that sad day, I spent the day with her, outside in her favorite spot until she wanted to come back inside. I held her and kissed her and told her how much I loved her. When it was time to go, and after a final consultation that I was doing the right thing, I held her while the injection took effect. She died in my arms. It was no doubt the hardest thing I ever had to do. She was 11 years old. I miss her and think about her everyday. I live alone with my 2 kids, but they can't understand the pain, as they weren't there. My friends don't understand as their response is/was "it's just a cat". Well she wasn't she was part of my family. I understand what you feel. I found strength in this forum and in some meetings that I managed to attend. My advice to you is keep talking about your furbaby as long as you like, In the end, you will now that you made the right decision. I did. It took along time to come to terms with it, but I loved her and couldn't bear to have her suffer any longer. I got a chance to say goodbye, something I didn't get to do with my other cat.
Take care my thoughts are with you
Louanne
