Im so sorry for your dx.
I to was in your shoes yet sadly I ost 3 sibling dogs to OS in 6 months of each other.
My dog was a huge 147 pounds, I could never ever imagine me removing a leg yet when faced with either breakage or life be it temporary or not I chose to amputate. My dog was up the next day after surgery and did fantastic.
He has now passed but he lived over 1 yr passed his operation.
I belong to a OS dog group on Yahoo and I have to say the stories are so inspirational. This was how I decided to pursue treatment.
Many many dogs do FANTSTIC, Many die yes sadly but most went well beyond the vets prognosis.
I find they give the shortest prognosis as to not get a persons hopes up, yet I have seen time and time and time again dogs going 2 yrs or more.
We even have some dogs in remission after 5 yrs, This is not the norm but it can happen. I wnated my BRuno to be one of them yet he wasnot. I regret nothing, if faced with this in the future id amputate again. It was not as big a deal as Imade it to be in my mind,.
Yet I understadn soem people do not have the means for such surgeries,
To let nature take its course DOES not mean youlove your baby any less.
There are suppliments and food regimen that may be helpful in fighting. There are biophosphates which rebuild bone.
Our 3rd dog who had OS sadly broke her leg. We had no idea she had bone cancer until she ran and it snapped, She was in severe pain and we released her right away.
If you need to chat please e mail me. Also I would CERTAINLY join the yahoo group as well.
Although i have no cancer dogs at this time i stay on the gorup to help those like you who are terrified just as i was.
Day by day,
do not bury your baby for before its time...
