Just wanted to send a hug to you and let you know I completely understand what you are saying! After Smokey died, I was at a local mall and they were selling Ty Classic stuffed animals. For some reason, I looked at a grey cat and when I opened up the little tag, believe it or not his name was "Smokey"....so I had to buy him.
I have spent many hours with this kitty sitting on my lap, just petting it. People may thing I am crazy, but it is a great comfort to me...as you say, only a cat lover would understand...
