Wow. That is a difficult thing to have to witness.
It's ironic sometimes, how life works, isn't it? You grieve for a beloved pet, and others seem to have no difficulty surrendering one when things get to be too much work.
I understand your sadness at this situation. It saddens me as well to hear of an animal in a situation like that, when there are those of us who would give anything for one or two more minutes with our beloved babies.
Perhaps there is comfort to be found in this though...at least your manager is surrendering the poor dog to the Humane Society. With luck, the dog will find a family that will be the "right" one, and will live happily ever after.
You've got a big heart, my friend. Try not to let it hurt too much about a situation that you can't help though. (As hard as that sounds to do!)
